Don't Judge a Book by It's Cover...

I have decided to make a book (patterned after the toothed Harry Potter book). This book will actually be a box, and will be mean and scary on the outside. However, the inside will be sweet an elegant.

Meanest book that I've ever seen!

Mom's Tree Bowl - The Finished Product

Here is the completed tree bowl for my mother. This was my first time doing multiple fires with underglazes, and I have really enjoyed the outcome. The critique was a success and the piece turned out even better.

Mom's Tree Bowl - Firing Number Two

As I said in an earlier post, I am making a large bowl symbolizing my mom.  The first firing with the first layer of underglazes went wonderfully. I am now putting on the next layer of underglazes to give the colors some gradient and life.

Mom's Tree Bowl - The Start

I was given the assignment to make a ceramic piece that describes a person, but cannot have any pictures of them in it. I decided to describe my mom in a bowl. I threw a large bowl, and then put a large maple tree and roots in the middle of it symbolizing my mother. I then put leaves on the tree symbolizing my mom's 6 daughters, 5 son-in-laws, and 9 grand-children. I hope that this piece turns out well, as I am currently not making any back-up pieces.

Setting Up My First Art Installation

Here is the setting up of my first art installation. I had lots of help from my friends to set it up. There is a built sand box with toys and a hop-scotch made up of ceramic tiles. Each of the tiles has some sort of childhood story or nursery rhyme on it. There are also casted butterflies and origami cranes hanging from the bar-roof. The best part is that people came up and started "playing" with my installation. Success!

The start of the set-up... Hanging up the cast butterflies

The sandbox with the hop-scotch tiles. Now all it needs is toys

The butterflies are all up!

Time for the cranes

The finished product. Isn't it awesome?!?

Making my First Art Installation Pieces

This is the making of my first art installation. These are screen printed and painted flat tiles that will be used in my piece.

Mixed Media Mirror

This is a mixed media piece that I made with ceramics, screen printing, and a mirror. The cute little girl is my niece.

Summer of Sectionals - The Great Results!!!

Earlier, I talked about some huge sectionals that I was working on. Here they are, I hope that you like them!

Non-Functional Tea Pots

I was assigned to make some non-functional tea pots. The practical part of me had a hard time coping with that assignment, but in the end I had some pretty nice pieces. (And one of them is actually slightly functional). The first tea pot is a portrayal of "tea time" and the other one is only about an inch tall. The latter does actually work and was made a gift for my little niece to play tea time with.

Summer of Sectionals

I spend the summer making lots and lots of sectionals. Here are some fun pictures from the process!

Yeah, I like to draw on my pots
